Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill says Gareth Barry can leave for Liverpool but only once the asking price has been met.
Liverpool have offered an initial fee in the region of £15million which could rise by a further £2m/£3m depending on appearances and club success.
O'Neill said: "Gareth made his position very clear and then it's straight forward. We have put a valuation on him and Liverpool value him differently just now.
"That is what the stalemate is, nothing else. When he says he wants to leave there is not much you can do about it.
"Gareth wants to go. That has been the case since June and if Liverpool meet our valuation he will go."
