The Spurs star is at the peak of his career and boss Rafa Benitez would like to take advantage of that and bring him to Anfield to bolster his squad for the coming season.
Trapattoni said: "For me he is an important player.
"I think Robbie at the moment has matured and, like players in that position, in the forwards, 26 to 28, it is important for him and important for us, I hope it is for him.
"For him it's a big challenge. I don't know what's happening with Liverpool at the moment [but] I would be very happy for him."
MEANWHILE, the daily mirror in the UK reports the following:
Liverpool's bid to sign Robbie Keane will have no chance of succeeding until Dimitar Berbatov's future at Tottenham is resolved.
Although Liverpool are confident he wants to move to Anfield, Spurs are determined to keep the Irish striker.
